Mount Stuart Square Apartments, Cardiff Bay
Negotiated the project that consists of a 5-storey concrete frame building infilling between Aberdare House and Mount Stuart House. This site is the only “missing tooth” in the previously complete grain of Mount Stuart Square.
The project will incorporate 28 car parking spaces behind the main building which will front onto Mount Stuart Square. Some of the spaces will be maintained for the use of Aberdare House. The total number of apartments will be 21 including a Penthouse.
The materials use a mix of brick, reconstituted stone and dark coloured metal cladding. These will be used in a rhythm and method which will emulate the spirit of the building stock adjacent and capture the sense of style of Mount Stuart Square.
Modern Methods of Construction:
As part of the reinforced concrete frame we designed precast elements for the columns and walls manufactured off site, the advantage was the speed of the RC frame construction process on this very confined site reducing the space needed for materials and formwork systems had we constructed them in situ.
