Forgeside House Refurbishment
Forgeside House is the former laboratory of the once vast East Moors steelworks in Cardiff and is now part of Cardiff Bay Business Centre. Under UK Steel Enterprise, a subsidiary of Tata Steel, Forgeside House is now home to a range of small businesses at the newly refurbished business centre.
This project was for the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the internal office space, as well as a facelift to the façade of the building, where new cladding, curtain walling and canopies were installed. The works were completed over a 26 week period whilst the business centre remained open to tenants. Intelle had to pay particular attention to a recording studio that remained fully operational throughout the works, liaising regularly with the tenants to ensure the works had minimal impact on their day-to-day operations.
The works entailed demolition work and strip out with new partitions, ceilings and floor finishes and new lighting throughout the refurbished areas. New entrance doors were installed, with glazed canopies to both main entrances. The core area had new glazed balustrading installed, with a new curtain wall to maximise light entering the building. New communal meeting areas and flexible spaces have been added to the large atrium as a result.
